Why Do Children Clench and Grind Their Teeth, and Is It Harmful?

It is observed that a large majority of children, especially during the primary, mixed, and permanent dentition periods, clench and grind their teeth during sleep and throughout the day. However, teeth clenching and grinding observed in children is generally considered a normal process.

Do You Have Gum Recession?

Gum recession can occur due to bone loss related to inflammation; however, it can also result from improper brushing techniques and bad habits, even without bone loss. Recession may lead to sensitivity, root caries, and aesthetic issues. Once the cause is determined, Işık dentists will inform you about the necessary treatment.

Is There a Risk of Implants Being Rejected by the Body?

Research on surface properties has shown that titanium is tissue-friendly. Therefore, titanium has long been used in implant production. Rejection of the implant by the body—meaning tissue rejection—is not possible. However, infections during the healing process and poor oral hygiene by patients, as well as excessive alcohol and tobacco consumption, can prevent the implant from fusing with the bone. This may lead to implant failure. With regular dental checkups and good oral hygiene, you can extend the life of your implants. Does Wisdom Tooth Extraction Always Require Surgery?

There is no rule that all wisdom teeth must be removed surgically. Based on clinical and radiological examinations, the dentist determines the method of extraction. It is incorrect to assume that every wisdom tooth extraction will be difficult. The position, size, and shape of the wisdom tooth help us decide whether it can be extracted like a regular tooth or requires surgery.

Is the Initial Dental Examination Necessary?

Dental treatments are highly varied, and many patients may require multiple treatments. Proper planning of these treatments ensures a more comfortable and shorter treatment process. Additionally, a complete treatment plan is not always possible immediately. Therefore, this initial examination helps determine which treatments should be prioritized.

The basis of treatment planning is diagnosis. To reach an accurate diagnosis and differentiate between diseases with similar symptoms, various laboratory tests may be used. The planning of these tests is also done during the initial examination.

It is evident that the mouth, jaw, and face regions are not separate from the rest of the body. Various systemic diseases may manifest in the oral area and sometimes need to be treated by relevant medical specialists. If systemic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure—which can negatively affect or be affected by dental treatments—are known or suspected, the patient may be referred to a specialist during this initial examination.

What Is an Impacted Tooth?

Teeth that remain in the jawbone and fail to emerge into their proper position at the expected time are called impacted teeth. The most common impacted teeth are wisdom teeth, followed by canines, which often remain impacted within the jawbone. In some cases, these impacted teeth can be guided into position with orthodontic treatment. However, if this is not possible and/or if impacted teeth are damaging other teeth or causing infection or pathology, they need to be extracted. Our clinic has an orthodontic specialist.

What Complaints Require Root Canal Treatment?

– Spontaneous tooth pain

– Pain worsening at night and unresponsive to painkillers

– Prolonged pain triggered by external factors such as cold, heat, or touch

– Swelling around the tooth, in the gums, and/or associated lymph nodes

– Fistula formation or discoloration due to tooth infection

Additionally, teeth that have lost vitality may not cause any symptoms. However, this should not be interpreted as there being no need for root canal treatment.
